So it's been a while since my last post, but I haven't been idle. I've shifted gears slightly the past two years, working on preserving my family's history rather than researching it. My largest project lately has been the task of scanning photos, journals and texts from the Bishop side of my family. My grandparents have done tons of research and gathering over the years and now I'm trying to digitize it. In August 2012 I started a new job a Ancestry.com in the imaging department. This job has facilitated my scanning efforts, allowing my to use their professional grade equipment and software. So far I've scanned over 100 giga bites of stuff.
Also, last summer I had the privilege of interviewing my Grandpa Whipple about his life. Together with my sister Heidi, we hope to someday publish this information as a sort of biography. It was truly remarkable to learn about my Grandpa's life and history. Much of it was new to me and my family.
The work continues! My plan is to complete the Bishop side scanning for Christmas 2014, and then get some copies out for the family. Until then, I thought that this blog might be a fun place to post some of my discoveries and to relate my experiences going forward. This was never intended to be an exclusive site, meaning Bishop's only, but rather to cover all of my relations. As Heidi gets the recordings transcribed, some exerts of Grandpa Whipple's biography might show up as well. I just wanted a public place to encourage other family members to become more involved in the work. This has been and will continue being lots of fun for me, but it is a lot of work and requires much of my free time.
